AEROPERLAS REGIONAL presents its second ATR-42 Aircraft

AEROPERLAS REGIONAL presented its second ATR-42 aircraft, manufactured by EADS (producer of Airbus), under its stringent quality standards, with capacity for 46 passengers.

AEROPERLAS REGIONAL, the leading domestic airline in Panama, presented its second ATR-42 aircraft, in combination with some integral service improvements, to provide a superior travel experience to its customers.

The ATR-42 is an aircraft built by EADS, the parent company of Airbus, and specifically designed for regional flights, with the highest standards of quality, safety and comfort. This aircraft features cutting edge technology – a few notable attributes are the following:

  • EGPWS: Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System is an instrument with several modes:

    • Map mode: tells the pilot in real-time his precise location and in relation to the route authorized for the particular flight.

    • Climate mode: permits crews to know climatic conditions en route and visualize the amount of water held by each cloud in different tones, in order to be able to surround them thereby avoiding turbulences for our passengers.

    • Terrain mode: detects any obstacle or terrain en route ahead of time, providing data to determine the altitude of the aircraft in relation to the obstacle.

  • TCAS: This is a new software that allows the crew to visualize other aircraft flying close, providing data to determine altitude and space in relation to our aircraft.

The ATR-42 offers space for 46 passengers, comfortably seated with a pitch of 31 inches, comparable to the dimensions of a jet. In this pressurized aircraft we also serve snacks and drinks on board, and for our clients’ convenience there is a toilet at the rear of the aircraft.

This is our second ATR-42 and it retires our previous Shorts SD360 service. “We have listened to the demands of our clients. Our destinations of Bocas del Toro and Changuinola have grown sufficiently over the last few years to warrant this investment. We now offer 10 additional seats per flight in a larger, more comfortable aircraft and with an improved schedule”, commented Jan Rohde, Director of AEROPERLAS REGIONAL.

All AEROPERLAS REGIONAL pilots are trained every six months in flight simulators. In the case of the ATRs, these trainings are performed in Houston, TX. Trainings include simulations of different types of in-flight emergencies with the objective of providing tools to our crews to solve any problem on-board quickly and efficiently, guaranteeing the highest standards of safety of any domestic airline in Panama.

“We are betting on innovation. We would like to express to our clients that it is possible to combine the experience and safety of 40 years in the market with a philosophy of continuous improvement. We were the first ones to bring an aircraft of the characteristics of the ATR. Likewise, we have been the first airline to be certified under the more stringent standards of the AAC (FAA equivalent in Panama). We have also been the first one to become an ecological airline and the first one to launch a world-class frequent flier program for our clients”, said Rohde.

Currently, AEROPERLAS REGIONAL transports more than 150,000 passengers per year, flying to 10 different destinations throughout the Panamanian territory: David, Bocas del Toro, Changuinola, Contadora, Jaqué, Bahía Piña, Playón Chico, Mamitupu, Achutupu and Pedasi.
